A Note for Prospective Students and Postdocs
I am always looking for motivated, team-oriented undergraduate and graduate students and post-doc researchers to join in my research. Most of the work we do involves statistics and geospatial tools (e.g., GIS) and human dimensions. My students have strong analytical and quantitative skills, and interest in human-environment interactions, enjoy fieldwork, and excel as writers, communicators and team players. I seek students with experience in GIS and statistical modelling. Normally I do not take students straight from their undergraduate degrees to graduate school. Does this sound like you? If you are considering applying to the Department of Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado and would like to work with me on one of my ongoing projects or something completely new, please send me an email with these attachments:
- C.V. or resume
- Transcript (unofficial is fine, but just make sure to include your major, GPA, and department)
- A statement describing your research interests, your skills you have and what you would like to acquire, why you would like to come to graduate school and specifically ENVS, and what your professional goals (i.e., what do you want to do when you are done with graduate school).
- GRE scores and percentiles.
- If relevant, any publications (peer reviewed papers, agency reports that you authored, poster PDFs, conference proceedings, professional reports e.g., please include copies or links to hosted locations).
Former Students & Postdocs
Michael Drake
PhD 2021, Environmental Studies Currently Assistant Professor and Fort Lewis College Michael is a Ph.D. student in Environmental Studies where he is advised by Joel Hartter and Dan Doak. He received his MS from North Carolina State University and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. Michael hopes to combine his background in terrestrial ecology and human dimensions research to explore how human populations drive conservation in the modern age. Michael is particularly interested in mammal populations and has previously worked with coyotes, pangolins, and neotropical primates. Outside of ecology, Michael spends his time rock climbing, dabbling in photography, and playing music. |
